Molly Weber Creative opens doors

December 7, 2012

The Molly Weber Creative art studio in Dysart officially opened for business on November 10, but the business has been growing since it began in 2009 as Molly Weber Designs out of Des Moines, Iowa. The brightly colored studio is located on the corner of Main Street and Clark Street.

Molly Weber Creative is a multi-faceted business providing services in photography, event planning, and graphic web design, but the business will also include body art, art work for sale, art classes and even art-themed birthday parties.

Weber lived and worked in Des Moines for a number of years before moving to Dysart three years ago. While in Des Moines, she fell in love with the art culture in the city.

"I really want to bring more art awareness to Dysart. We already have so many talented artists on Main Street and I would like to add more talent, and in all different age groups. Des Moines is very saturated with art and has a huge art community. A lot of the things that I did there, I would like to bring here, like the body painting and different things that go on," said Weber.

Eventually, the shop will feature Weber's artwork including abstract splatter paintings, barn wood window and door art, and restored furniture. She will also sell photo frames and the studio will serve as a portfolio for her artwork. She is also open to entertain ideas for custom work.

"I have very updated, modern kind of funky, bright colored fresh stuff. Not your traditional studio setting. This is a work in progress, but all of this will end up being photography portfolio and painting. It's not just photography but the whole art experience when you're in here," said Weber.

Weber began to dabble in photography as a way to preserve body art work and it picked up from there. Body painting can be anything that the client wishes it to be. Clients can be painted for a portrait, pregnant women can have their bellies painted for maternity photos, or the football team could get painted for their next game. As Weber designed more and more body art, she began to photograph the art and from there, she began to take professional photos.

"Photography has always been a passion of mine ever since I was a little girl. I always had cameras growing up. I was always taking pictures. It was always something I wanted to do," said Weber.

Photography is something that Weber takes very seriously. "Photography to me is a way to capture people as they are and to preserve the memories to provide people with a keepsake. I really like to capture people as they are, the way they are in everyday life and how I think they would want to be remembered and portrayed and I like to preserve that for them so they always have that memory and keepsake," said Weber.

Over the years, Weber has had many repeat clients. She considers it an honor to be a part of each family as couples come to her for engagement photos, wedding photos, maternity photos, and first year baby photos.

"Customers should come to me for the unique experience. It's fun, creative, funky, fresh, and colorful and it's different. It's very cost effective and it's very, very competitive with pricing in the area. I also have a quick turnaround. You get a disc with all of the pictures and the rights to it," stated Weber. Many photographers are unwilling to give up the rights to photos, but Weber is happy to do so for her customers.

Early next year, Weber plans to host children's art classes. The classes will touch base on a variety of different subjects and some of the classes will be inspired by certain artists. The classes will feature anything from drawing, to painting, to sculpture. She also plans to offer packages for birthday parties held in the studio.

The studio will also host consulting services for THIRDPIG Consulting, another business which Weber is a part of, that offers services in brand management, business consulting and website development.
