Josie Cloverdale, 38

Dr. Josie Coverdale went to be a heavenly angel on February 13, 2016, as a result of a tragic auto accident, in Bryan, Texas. Josie was born in Jefferson, Iowa on April 18, 1977, to Judy and Larry Piltingsrud.

Her family moved to Krum, Texas where Josie attended the Krum schools. She was involved in many activities that involved her passions, animals and sports. Josie graduated from Krum High School with honors and started her dream of attending Texas A&M, majoring in Animal Science. After graduating from A&M, Josie continued her education at Iowa State University, where she obtained her Master's degree. The dream wasn't over yet and she accomplished her goal of a PhD, also at Iowa State. Her first teaching position was at the University of Georgia. Dr. Coverdale made her biggest impact by teaching at Texas A&M, specializing in Equine Nutrition. Josie was a known, respected expert and speaker in both the US and internationally on equine nutrition. In addition to her educational skills, Dr. Coverdale worked hard to be a coach and mentor to her students as they were introduced to horses and the world of equine education.

Josie is survived by her husband, Mark, parents, Judy and Larry Piltingsrud of Krum, Tx., aunts, Jan Prokop, her husband, Steve, Joyce Rice and her husband, Harve, in- laws, Jim and Barb Coverdale, brother in law, Matt, wife Angela and many cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hildebrand Equestrian Complex, College Station, Texas on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840. Please make checks payable to the Texas A&M Foundation and include a note indicating the gift is in memory of Dr. Josie Coverdale.
