Thomas Fred Adamek was born April 25, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Edward and Lucille (Zmolek) Adamek. He was raised on the farm and attended school in Traer, graduating from North Tama High School with the Class of 1966. Tom entered the United States Army in 1968. After his honorable discharge from the service, he attended school achieving his certification as a Nursing Assistant. Tom worked at the Veteran's Hospital in Iowa City, then left healthcare to work for Funks G. Hybrid Seed Corn. He farmed and was part owner of the Ole Depot Restaurant in Traer, then began his career with Home Depot in Waterloo, for over twenty years. Tom was most passionate about his yardwork and flower gardening.
Tom passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Covenant Medical Center of Waterloo at the age of 68 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Adamek; brother-in-law, Vern Gayler; nephew, Daniel Dunbar; and a great-nephew, Daniel Edward Dunbar. Tom is survived by his brother, Ronald (Rhea) Adamek of West Valley City, UT; sister, Mary Lou Gayler of Livermore, CO; a sister-in-law, Sandy Nessler of Aurora, CO; 6 nieces and nephews: Craig Glenn, Veronica Dunbar, Tracy Adamek, Tammy Herman, Brandon Adamek, and Ryan Adamek; and 3 great-nephews/niece: Jacob Dunbar, Sydney Herman and Rhett Herman.
