Union MATHCOUNTS team qualifies for state competition

On Friday, February 10th, Union competed in the nationwide math competition called MATHCOUNTS at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Union tied for 2nd as a team and qualified for the State MATHCOUNTS competition at Drake University in Des Moines on Friday, March 31st! Team members were Marcus Albertsen, Gabriel Jesse, Ty Lorenzen, and Belle Weber. Alexa Weber qualified to join the team as an alternate that day. Union's 2nd place tie was with North Fayette Valley. Holmes Junior High from Cedar Falls was the overall winner.

Individually Union's Top finisher was Belle Weber with 8th place out of 154 students! Alexa Weber tied for 11th, Ty Lorenzen 12th, Gabriel Jesse tied for 14th, Marcus Albertsen Tied for 15th, Ella Smith 18th, Mae Deaton tied 22nd with Tristen Prouse. Carlie Spore tied for 24th. Other awards won were Kylea Neuendorf and Sterling Mullen who were 1st and 2nd respectively in the alternate division!! Great Job to all!! Good Luck at State on Friday, March 31st.
