The Dengler Domain: Cereal

March 31, 2017
Sean Dengler - Columnist , Dysart Reporter

This week's article is not about the past because I need to start with a big, delicious bowl of cereal. This breakfast delight is important to start my day, and I have a fondness for cereal. It is time to open wide and be spoon fed my top three cereals.

The first cereal is Lucky Charms or the off brand equivalent, Magic Stars. Two facts about Sean Dengler. One, as a child, I thought the UNI-Dome looked like a big marshmallow. Two, putting marshmallows in cereal is one of the world's greatest inventions. Move over television. The best way to eat Lucky Charms is to pick out the grain parts of the cereal and leave the marshmallows for the end. Nothing tastes better than finishing a bowl of cereal by eating milky marshmallows.

I apologize for my lie. Fruity Pebbles are better the milky marshmallows. Fruity Pebbles are addictive. Once I start eating them, I can never stop. In my prime, I would eat four bowls of Fruity Pebbles like a champ. In my defense, I was and still am a string bean. If I were to try eating four bowls of Fruity Pebbles today, I would need ten days of bedrest to get over the sugar coma. The best part of Fruity Pebbles was the incorporation of the Flintstones. This brought up nostalgia for the nearly impossible to beat Flintstones computer game. Whether it was falling in the deep ravine in the game or in a bowl of Fruity Pebbles, it happened far too often.

My love for Fruity Pebbles only extends so far as only one cereal takes the cake as the favorite cereal. It is delicious shredded wheat with a side coated with white, strawberry, or blueberry flavor. These are Frosted Mini-Wheats. This cereal coupled with milk waters my mouth every time. This cereal also fills up my stomach more than the previous two cereals. Due to the large size of Frosted Mini-Wheats, it does not take much to fill a bowl. Never have I had a bad bowl of Frosted Mini-Wheats. I always end up happy.

I love these three cereals for their sugary taste. While I do not dabble in these cereals like my younger self, the craving lurks every day. If one of these cereals showed up on my doorstep tomorrow, I would eat it no questions asked. Cereal has not significantly changed in the last 100 years, but I hope in the next 100 years; Lucky Charms, Fruity Pebbles, and Frosted Mini-Wheats will be on the shelves of the Space Galactica Supermarket.
