Dysart Arbor Day celebration

May 12, 2017
Dysart Reporter

Dysart's annual Arbor Day celebration was held on Friday, April 28th, at D-G Elementary. Because of the cold, rainy weather, the program was held in the elementary school gym.

The welcome was given by D-G Student Council President, Reagan Sorensen. The fourth grade students presented a very appropriate and lively song "Green." Awards for the annual fifth grade Arbor Day posters were presented. First place went to Jay Petersen, second place tie awards to Alley Freemon and Lauren Youngblut, and third place tie awards to Reagan Sorensen and Brooklyn Hubbard. The theme for the posters was "Trees Are terrific in Dysart." Dysart Tree Board chairman, Daniel Hartwig, presented the Tree City award flag to Mayor Pam Thiele who gave a short talk on the importance of our community's trees.

A contribution toward the 2017 Arbor Day tree was received from the Farmers Savings Bank of Traer, and Rick Krug from the bank presented information about the tree and its characteristics. Because of the weather, the tree planting was postponed until Tuesday when the Weeping Pink Flowering Cherry Tree was planted in front of the elementary school near the south end of the building.
