John B. Rollins, 90

Former Traer resident, John B. Rollins, passed away at Dobson Hospice House in Chandler, AZ, Friday, December 16, 2016. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Traer City Park Shelter Building from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with military rites by the Traer American Legion to follow.

John was the 2nd of eight children born to John B. and Marie (Downing) Rollins in Kirksville, MO, on August 14, 1926. John grew up in Kirksville and served his country in the Army during W.W. II, he was stationed in the Philippines. Following the war John returned to Kirksville for a short time then moved to Iowa, where he met Joyce Fox. John and Joyce were married September 20, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. A year later their son Steve was born.

John was manager of the Traer Cleaners in1951, later buying the business and running Rollins Cleaners for many years. John was also mayor of Traer in the 1960's. John and several other local businessmen formed a country band just for fun and played in Traer for several years. John was an avid trap shooter and member of the Cedar Falls Gun Club. John enjoyed spending as much time as possible at their cabin on Lake Delhi, in Iowa.

John moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2004 and spent many happy hours at the Gilbert Senior Center, dancing, singing and calling bingo.

John is survived by: son; Steve (Deb) of Sun Lakes, AZ; two grandsons: Jason (Kellie) Rollins of Altoona, IA, Justin (Ann) Rollins of Gilbert, AZ; five great-grandchildren: Parker and Quinn of Altoona, Zachary, Megan and Seth of Gilbert; three brothers: Jim (Sue) Rollins, Jac (Nellie) Rollins and Dusty (Mary) Rollins, one sister Betty Hemric.

John was preceded in death by: Joyce, July 1997, his parents, two brothers and one sister.
