The Tama County Board of Supervisors is encouraging all county homeowners that need assistance with exterior home improvements to complete Region 6 Housing Trust Fund applications. Eligible exterior emergency home improvements can include roof, window, and siding replacements. Land sales contract homebuyers and mobile home owners are not eligible for the assistance. Tenants and rental properties are not eligible.

Eligible applicants must reside in Tama County and have an income under the following annual figures:

1 person - $36,050

2 person - $41,200

3 person - $46,350

4 person - $51,500

5 person - $55,650

6 person - $59,750

The program provides up to $25,000 of forgivable grant and loan funds for qualified applicants. There is an ability to pay household income formula to determine the amount of improvements that must be repaid to the fund. Some households will not have to repay funding and others will have to repay 25% of the cost of the improvements. If the family income is higher than the above figures, no assistance can be provided.

Limited funds are available for this program. Over $309,000 of funding from this program has been provided across Tama County over the last 4 years. All applications are processed on a first come first received basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee funding. Funds for this program come from the State of Iowa and Tama County. Sometimes there is a lengthy waiting list for funding approval.
