Local bone marrow recipients meet for reunion in Coralville

October 20, 2017
Encourage you to join the bone marrow registry , Dysart Reporter

Recently four area residents attended the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics' (UIHC) Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Reunion for survivors, families, caregivers, and staff at the Marriott in Coralville. All four had their BMT at UIHC and all four had the same transplant doctor, Dr. Margarida Silverman.

UIHC has done over 1100 allogeneic (unrelated donor) transplants and over 1500 autologous (self donor) since 1988 and completed nearly 200 transplants last year alone. You can directly support transplant patients with monetary donations made to the UIHC Department of Social Services for Adult BMT Patients. Are you on the bone marrow registry? It doesn't hurt and takes little of your time. For the four of us, there are four people out there who unselfishly saved our lives. Sign up today, and you too could save a life.
