The Little Knights Learning Center (LKLC) has been open for more than two months now but held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the daycare on Monday, Oct. 15.

Members of the Dysart community and the daycare board overseeing held the ribbon cutting outside the doors of the daycare with Wanda Petersen, the president of the board, having the honors of cutting the ribbon.

"In 15 months, we went from me approaching the Dysart Development Corporation board with the idea of the need for a daycare for children as young as six weeks old to grade school school to the reality of opening the doors," Petersen said.

Wanda Petersen and members of the daycare board cut the ribbon and welcome visitors to an open house of the Little Knights Learning Center.

Tours were given of the rooms to attendees and the Union school board. The Union Community School District supported the idea of a daycare, allowing for use of the rooms at DG Elementary for the daycare. After hiring a director and staff, the daycare opened its doors in August for children aged 6 weeks through before and after school.

Little Knights Learning Center has 54 "kiddos" enrolled and 14 employees. The LKLC's goal is to "help bring young families to Dysart and to help our school enrollment grow." The board anticipates the daycare we will outgrow the current rooms at the school and will be required to build a standalone building in "a few short years." Fundraising for this future project is currently underway.

The daycare board consists of Wanda Petersen as President, Aly Goken as Vice President, Lynne Ternus as Secretary, Ian Flores as Treasurer as well as Courtney Petersen, Mandy Brown, Stacey Dabney, Kris Cayton, Peg Hennings, Dawn Stoakes, Jenn Gassman, Pete Eikamp, Katherine Ollendieck, Pat Hansen, Rita Eikamp and Kristi Martin.
