Dysart resident and recent Union graduate Mason Scott has joined the U.S. Air Force, swearing in for duty on Wednesday, May 29 at MEPS in Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA.

Currently, Scott is attending boot camp at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX for mechanical aptitude and the family is unsure of what kind of work he'll be doing for about a month.

"He has been thinking about it for a while, mostly because his older brother, Jordan, went into the Marine Corps," Jenna Scott, Mason's mother said. "He felt the Air Force was a better fit for him. He also wants to travel and go and see the world, and the military is a great way to do that."

Scott's graduation from bootcamp date is July 27 and he will also be playing in the band at the graduation ceremony. He will then be going on to tech school, which will most likely be at Shepherd Air Base in Wichita Falls, TX.

"We are so very proud of him," Jenna said. "He is a very service oriented kid, who likes to help others and he knew that this would be a good start to his life and would help him get to where he wants to be. He also wanted to go and see the world, and what better way to do that then with the military."

Mason is the son of Chad and Jenna Scott of Dysart. While attending Union, Mason was involved in football, choir, speech, drama, band, jazz band, show choir, Union Carolers as well as rugby.
