Farmers Market returns to Dysart Park

The 2019 Dysart Farmers Market season returned on Tuesday, July 2, returning to Dysart Park after several years on Main Street.

Among several changes this year is Erica Dickerson as the new manager of the Dysart Farmers Market after Rhonda Lassen step down in 2018. The Dysart Development Corporation invited Dickerson to take over after 12 years of involvement. Dickerson has managed the Belle Plaine Farmers Market over the past several years and hopes to use that experience managing Dysart's.

"It had begun at the Community Building years ago, but when I started it was at the park originally," Dickerson said. "It was a great location with the playground for kids while mom shopped. Parents could set at the park and visit, share kolaches. We tried Main Street, but with blocking off the street, difficulties with parking and for the elderly, we wanted to move it back to the park."

Another notable change this year will be the time. After hearing comments from community members, Farmers Market will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. after previously being a half an hour earlier. According to Dickerson, this time will accommodate working families while also finishing before dinner.

"This community likes to support local vendors and people are excited," Dickerson said. "Our society is moving back to organic and homemade goods, so these markets offer people a way to purchase these products. We are very excited to continue this positive experience for our community."

Dickerson and organizers also plan to bring back clubs and fundraisers previously seen at the Dysart Farmers Market. She also encourages vendors of any size to set up at the market for no fee. The markets are plan to continue each Tuesday into early September. Check our their Facebook page for more information.
